Rehoming
At this time we are unable to take in animals. However, we understand you may not be able to keep your pet so we would like to provide you with some resources to help you do so safely.
Are there alternatives or ways that you can keep your pet in their home with their family?
Can you send your pet off with their current things to help them transition in the move?
Do you have their vet records, current diet, medical issues, behavioral issues, and history compiled for their new family?
If there is no way for you to keep your pet the next steps would be :
Take clear photos of your pet.
Check out our list of Facebook rehoming groups, figure out which ones apply to your pet.
Make posts sharing information on your pet, directing people to information on the care they will need to provide, adding a location and a rehoming fee if the group allows them to be posted.
Things to consider when rehoming your pet
Someone is interested, how do I make sure they’re a good fit?
Ask about their experience with this animal. If they currently keep the same species ask to see the set up they use and what they feed to their pets.
If they don't have the animal currently make sure that they are prepared before bringing home your pet.
Do they have a proper enclosure?
Do they have bedding/litter/food/enrichment/ and funds for medical emergencies?
Ask what they will do if they can no longer keep your pet.
We heavily suggest searching their names in Facebook groups, on Google, or other social medias to make sure that they are not flippers, breeders, hoarders, people who will use your pet as feeders, or have other red flags. You can also reach out to us to ask if they’re on any of the local do not adopt lists.
Facebook:
There are several groups on facebook geared toward rehoming animals locally.
Clicking the button below will take you to a list of some of those groups.
Flyers:
Putting up Flyers around town can be helpful. Some places to post include:
Veterinary offices
Cafes and coffee shops
Pet care shops such as groomers and specialty shops
Grocery stores
Be sure you have permission to hang a flyer or it may be removed
Peer 2 Peer Rehoming.
